Wellington church’s Congregational Life Committee is responsible for the support and development of the congregation. Our Care Group is taking the initiative to assist and support people in need. We have started monthly small group meetings where participants can meet in a home, share fellowship and their personal faith journeys. So far this Autumn, our committee has hosted a memorial service, trivia night, and a special congregation breakfast. Other activities include coffee hours after each service, Black History Month coffee hour and poetry slam, bowling parties, and suppers during the Lenten Series.
Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM) Basic Support and Special Support provide funding for the work of UCC Conference and National ministries in support of the life and work of the local church and its members. OCWM changes lives by strengthening our ecumenical relationships and global partnerships, by imagining and embodying a better world through prophetic witness and work, and by providing resources and programs to nurture the vitality of our United Church of Christ congregations.
PROPERTY AND FINANCE
The purpose of the Property and Finance Committee is to oversee the church physical plant. Its primary responsibilities are to oversea the management of the property and to assure that the Church meets its financial obligations. The committee monitors the pledges, reviews monthly financial statements, and prepares an annual budget. As steward of the church properties, the committee is responsible for the contractual relationships with our building partners, TimeLine Theatre and the Broadway Youth Center.
Our worship committee helps ensure that worship at Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ is relevant, meaningful, and of the highest quality possible. The committee helps liturgists and preachers connect the worship experience across services and liturgical seasons, integrating members’ talents and inspirations as we strive to create services that reflect our values and encourage us to live lives of faith and integrity. The committee takes into account church members’ and visitors’ interests and needs as it evaluates services, conducts liturgist trainings and liturgy workshops, and helps assure that the worship team has what it needs to create worship experiences that are transformative, relevant, and powerful.
Wellington church’s Faith Education Committee is responsible for the support and development of children, youth, and families. Some of our programming includes Nursery, Sunday School, and Youth Group, as well as, the Children’s Christmas pageant every year. As a committee we meet every other month to reflect on curriculum, plan activities, and engage in service projects. Some of our service projects have included: making birthday bags for the Lakeview pantry, putting together post-detention backpacks for 8th Day Center for Justice, and providing bag lunches for the Broadway Youth Center. If you are interested in joining the Faith Education Committee please contact Alli Baker by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (407-808-9178).
