Summer 2014: Wellington participated in the Chicago Religious Leadership Network‘s Bridges to Community Youth Encounter on Immigration. They said yes to service learning with day laborers and other immigrant workers, yes to arts and activism with undocumented students, yes to listening and learning together. This was followed by a 3 day retreat in Beverly Shores, IN, where we spent time resting and reflecting together, cooking, and hanging out at the Dunes. We ended our time together with a send-off service at the beach to celebrate our recent high school graduates and college students who will be returning to school in the Fall.
Our youth group meets Sundays from 11-noon during worship. Youth (ages 13-21) are invited to participate in faith formation through bible study, discussion, art, games, service, and community building.
Other events include: Coming Out of the Shadows with the Immigrant Youth Justice League (March 10), Louder Than a Bomb: Citywide Youth Poetry Slam (March), Summer Service Trip & Retreat (June or July), Wednesday nights at ComedySportz (throughout the Summer), and more!
