This Changes Everything Lenten Study
When: 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1
Where: Wellington Avenue UCC

Our final evening of our Lenten study on This Changes Everything, beginning with a light dinner at 6 p.m., followed by discussion until 8 p.m.

Maundy Thursday Service of Tennebrae and Communion
When: 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2.
Where: Wellington Avenue UCC

Please join us for a service of Holy Communion, scripture readings and music telling the story of Jesus’ trial, crucifixion and burial, accompanied by the gradual extinguishing of candles until the Christ candle is carried out of the sanctuary.

Good Friday Walk for Justice
 Noon, Friday, April 3.
Where: Begins at the northeast corner of Congress and Michigan Avenue in the park, in downtown Chicago.

The Good Friday Walk for Justice is a outdoor, urban stations of the cross that happens every year in downtown Chicago. Starting at the corner of Congress and Michigan, participants walk to different stations, where issues of injustice today are linked to the crucifixion of Jesus. Different churches and organizations set up each station. Wellington will lead the Eco-Justice station.

This year’s Good Friday Walk for Justice, which is a ministry of the 8th Day Center for Justice, is “Give Light, and People Will Find a Way,” based on the words of Ella Baker. Learn more about the walk here.

“Rolling Away the Stone” Saturday Worship Service
When: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4.
Where: Wellington Avenue UCC

Join us as we begin the culmination of our Lenten journey, where we looked at our complicity in climate change and climate change denial, by “rolling away the stone” from our hesitations to end climate change. All throughout Lent, we invited participants in our Wednesday night Lenten studies and Sunday morning worship services to bring their recyclables, which we’ve piled around our Scrooby baptismal font to create a Wall of Denial/Wall of Trash. At this service of prayer and song, the wall will be demolished, and the trash will be loaded into vehicles and taken to the recycling station.

Easter Sunrise Service
When: 6:20 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 5.
WhereMontrose Beach. Take Montrose Avenue into Lincoln Park; turn right at the Bait Shop (the first road on your right) and park; walk east to the rocks at the lake and look for the friendly, sleepy faces.

Dress warmly and bring a blanket or lawn chair to help us celebrate the first light of Easter morning!

Easter Worship Service and Pot Luck Breakfast
When: Breakfast begins at 9 a.m., followed by our Easter worship celebration at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, April 5.
Where: Wellington Avenue UCC

Join us as we celebrate the new life and hope of Easter, complete with music and fellowship around the communion table. We’ll kick things of with our annual pot luck breakfast at 9 a.m., with worship following right afterward.

(Wellington celebrates communion around an open table, which means anyone can join us for communion, regardless of religious belief (or nonbelief!) or denominational membership. It doesn’t matter who you are, there’s room at God’s table for everyone!)
