Wellington Avenue UCC will have several different services and events this year for Advent. Check out the schedule below and join us as we wait in joyful, hopeful, peaceful and loving anticipation for Jesus’ birth.

Sunday, December 7, after worship — We will have all wreath-making materials available, as well as items for sale by some of our own Wellington artists and artisans. A light lunch of pizza, salad, dessert and drink will be available for purchase to sustain you as you create your wreath or shop for that special handmade item. COST: Advent wreath materials: $8. Lunch for adults: $4, Lunch for kids 12 and under: $2

Wednesday, December 10, 7:00 pm – Blue Christmas Service: a service of worship designed for people suffering with pain, loss, isolation and grief throughout the Advent season. In this service we remember those for whom the holidays are not joyful; they are lonely, feeling alienated and cast apart from family celebrations; experiencing depression and sadness and yet are often compelled to ‘put on a happy face’ for others, denying their true feelings. We invite those attending to bring photos or object to remember a loved one.

Sunday, December 14, 10:30 am worship – Third Sunday in Advent: lighting the candle of Joy, Wellington Children’s Christmas Pageant: Las Posadas Navidades. ”The Faith Education ministry team has been gearing up for this year’s Christmas Pageant, which will connect Mary and Joseph’s journey with that of migrants Maria y Jose. With these year’s look at migrant stories, we are inviting members of the congregation to bring gifts for our sisters and brothers with the following items:

Gift cards to Walgreens, Jewel, and Target
Women’s winter wear
Child (age 3) winter wear

Additionally, Sara Wohleb writes: “We are now supporting two Honduran families who have not been part of the Heartland Centers, but who face many of the same issues.  They do not have the support of the federal funding that Heartland has.  It would be really great to have gift cards for them.  In addition we need winter gear for a 3 year old boy and his mom (coats boots etc).  The boy lost one foot after falling off the train that brings migrants through Mexico. Winter gear for a woman – we may have two different arriving this winter.”

Sunday, December 21, 10:30 am worship – Fourth Sunday in Advent: lighting the candle of Peace

Christmas Eve, December 24, 7:00 pm – Service Lessons and Carols: A wonderful candlelight service for family, out of town guests, and friends. It will be a meaningful evening to hear Christmas scriptures and join in singing traditional carols.
