Renew Your Church – January 31, 2021

Join the National UCC’s call to support those welcoming asylum seekers by urging Congress to fully fund communities with the resources they need to ensure new arrivals have access to food, clothing, shelter, legal orientation, medical care, dignified transportation, and other case management services. Click here to sign!

Destiny Bell was one of our coordinating WILD interns this summer. She is currently working as an intern with The Final 5 Campaign – thanks, in part, to a gift from the Outreach Committee – and she and Pastor Ann-Louise connected at a recent action at the Chicago Build Expo.

Destiny was living with her grandmother, but ended up homeless when her grandmother passed away.

At 19, she is excited to now be living in her own apartment, but could use some help furnishing it. So far she has a bed, and a tv…and that’s about it.

If you would like to provide some financial support, you can donate to her via
Cashapp ($itsgdestoo123) or Venmo (@gdestoo123)

She is also willing to accept donations of furniture & household items. (I told her I wished she had talked to us earlier, when the Dehnes were clearing out their Chicago home!) If you have some items to donate, let Ann-Louise know and she’ll help coordinate communication & delivery.
Click here to send Ann-Louise an email.

Alex Barnes,

our UChicago seminary intern,
would also love to meet up
with folks as she gets to
know the congregation.

Give to Helping Hands!

This month’s Helping Hands Offering supports Fenn’s at Feitshans (FAF) Mentoring Program. Funds will help support the program in it’s efforts to offer a combination of role modeling, teaching and advising to youth.

The Outreach Committee will match all funds given by the congregation, so please give generously!

You can give online through the church’s Tithe.ly link – just select Helping Hands from the drop-down menu – or by mailing a check to the church office (P.O. Box 804687, Chicago, IL 60680-4108).

Coming Soon!

Wellington’s Book Group meets at 10:00am
on the third Saturday of each month.
Newcomers are always welcome!

In November, we will be discussing
Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts, by Rebecca Hall.

(A best book of 2021 by NPR and The Washington Post)

Part graphic novel, part memoir, Wake is an imaginative tour-de-force that tells the “powerful” (the New York Times Book Review) story of women-led slave revolts and chronicles scholar Rebecca Hall’s effort to uncover the truth about these women warriors who, until now, have been left out of the historical record.

Interested? Pick up a copy today, you’ll be ready
for some lively discussion by November 19th!

Questions? Reach out to Claudette Richards, the Book Group Coordinator.
