Thanks to Mark Birge-Anderson for the lovely Epiphany image we’ve enjoyed this season!

This week marks the final Sunday in Epiphany, and our continued celebration of Black History Month.

Plan to stay after church at our next Hybrid Service on February 18th – and bring your Life Book with you (or pick one up, if you don’t have one yet)!

It’s our next Aging with Grace Workshop – with a special presentation by Margaret England – AND extra hearty special treats at Fellowship Hour in honor of Black History Month!

Thanks to everyone who was able to stay for last week’s special Fellowship Hour presentation about Bring Chicago Home! One of the organizers wrote me a follow-up email and said, “your congregation is a blessing!”

The Civic Federation has published a very clear piece about this referendum – click here to read it, and share it with friends!

Volunteers who are interested in phone banking with ONE Northside – either in person or from your home – can click here to sign up!

You can also click here to learn about opportunities to provide support in your neighborhood.

Together, we can BRING CHICAGO HOME at the ballot box on March 19th!

The siege of Gaza has now entered its fourth month.

Over 28,000 have been killed. According to Oxfam, only 10% of the weekly needed food aid is being allowed in.

We must continue
to demand a ceasefire in Gaza

Slade has been released from the hospital, and will be staying with close family friends here in Chicago for the next few weeks as he continues his recovery from quadruple bypass surgery.

Thanks to everyone who was able to visit him during his hospital stay. Please continue to told him in your prayers.

Picture from last September of Slade (R) with church retreat roommate Mark (L).

On the other side of the pond, David Turner is also home from the hospital after a nasty case of pneumonia. Please keep David & his wife Margaret in your prayers as he continues to recover.

Book Club meets

Karen Graham facilitates the discussion of this story where “McBride brilliantly captures a rapidly changing country, as seen through the eyes of the recently arrived and the formerly enslaved…[reminding us that] against seemingly impossible odds, even in the midst of humanity’s most wicked designs, love, community and action can save us.” —The New York Times Book Review

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 29TH

Take yourself down to the South Side and pull up a chair!

This month’s Last Supper* Club is hosted by Claudette Richards! (Rumor has it that Jim will do the dishes afterwards.)

Ash Wednesday is the doorway into Lent – the season leading up to Easter when we hold extra space for contemplation and renewal.

Join us in the Zoom Sanctuary at 7pm on Wednesday, March 14 for a brief reflective service of word and music.

BYOA – Bring Your Own Ashes – or ask Ann-Louise to bring you some before Wednesday!

This year, our Lenten Theme is
Challenging Conversations with Compassion.

With an election on the horizon, and conflicts all around the world, there are plenty of challenging conversations to get pulled into.
But what about hard conversations at work, or at home?

Join us this year to practice strategies for having these challenging conversations from a place of compassion for yourself, and also for the ones you disagree with.

We’ll have two special sessions during Lent – Wednesday, February 28th & Wednesday, March 13th – from 7-8pm.

You can join us from the Zoom Sanctuary, or gather in person at the Nambu Chapel. For folks gathering in person, arrive by 6:30pm and you’ll get a simple soup supper, too!
