Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson recently announced that the city of Chicago will be ending its new arrivals mission. In addition, the initial budget released by the Mayor’s office does not adequately fund this transition to a unified shelter system, and ignores multiple recommendations from community leaders.

ICIRR and our partners fear that the decision to end the new arrivals mission at this juncture, combined with the lack of investment in long-term programs for unhoused individuals, could increase homelessness in Chicago in the middle of winter.

ALL people deserve housing, no matter how long they have lived in Chicago or how long they have experienced homelessness. Email your Alderperson today and ask them to support permanent solutions, including revenue.
