TAMMY UPDATE – 11/25/23
As many of you know, our beloved Tammy had spinal fusion surgery on October 30th, and has had quite the recovery journey since then!
As of Wednesday, November 22nd, she is at The Citadel in Skokie for a few weeks of rehab. You’re welcome to send her a get-well card –
Tammy Snider, Room 108
c/o The Citadel
9615 Knox Avenue
Skokie, IL 60076
Tammy tested positive for COVID on November 17th, but is allowed visitors at this time – as long as you are aware of her condition!
The Citadel has PPE on hand that they encourage you to use during visits.
This month’s Helping Hands offering
goes to the
Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA)
1.7 million people have now been displaced in Gaza.
MECA’s staff, partners, and volunteers have already gotten aid to tens of thousands of people and will continue as long as possible.
Families in Gaza are in need of your urgent support!
MECA’s staff and local partners in Gaza are on the ground responding to the most urgent needs of children and families.
Please give now to provide medical aid, clean water, food, psychological support, and more. You can mail a check to the church office (P.O. Box 804687, Chicago, IL 60680-4108), or give online using the button below (be sure to choose “Helping Hands”)
TAKE ACTION!
There is movement at City Hall to repeal Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance.
This divisive move serves no positive purpose! It will not make us feel safer, address the challenges our city is facing with new arrivals, or address decades of divestment in our neighborhoods. Please sign this petition to stay welcoming!
We are heartened by the
temporary cease fire in Gaza –
but it is not enough!
As reported by The New York Times (which is not a pro-Palestinian paper!), more than twice as many women & children have been reported killed in Gaza in less than two months than during two years of war in Ukraine.
CALL. EMAIL. ORGANIZE for a PERMANENT Cease Fire TODAY!
The Stewardship Committee looks forward to receiving your 2024 pledge
by Sunday, December 3rd!
You can return it by mail to the Church Office,
or bring it with you to church on December 3rd!
The committee would also like to remind you that If you are 70 1/2 or older and have a traditional IRA, you can give up to $100,000 per year tax free to charitable organizations. This is known as as the IRA Charitable Rollover – or as the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) on your tax return. A married couple can each give up $100,000 from their respective IRAs each year. The gift can satisfy all or part of your annual Required Minimum Distribution (or RMDs). The transfer to charity does not qualify for an income tax deduction but instead it escapes the income tax that you would otherwise have owed on your RMD. This avoidance of income tax is as helpful as a deduction especially if you do not itemize your deductions.
You are encouraged to consider an IRA Charitable Rollover to Wellington United Church of Christ. You can make a gift to the operating budget, fulfill your pledge, or give to any special fund
(like Outreach or the Endowment, for example) that you designate.
To make an IRA Charitable Rollover please contact your IRA administrator to request the appropriate form.
Your generosity will make a difference.
