Welcome to Advent!

Join us for a hybrid service this Sunday
– in person at the Nambu Chapel, or online –
as we light the candle of Hope.

Here’s what Mark Birge-Anderson has to say about the new artwork he created for this season –
“Even with the ominous sight of smoke from the burning buildings over the distant horizon, and out of the rubble and destruction from war, the Phoenix of Hope will rise from the ashes. And a Home filled with Love can be built, with the Promise of Joy as a new day begins. So then, we will plant the Seeds of Peace. Please God, hear our prayer.”

Please remember that the Nambu Chapel is fully accessible, located on the lower level of
North Shore Baptist Church (5244 N. Lakewood Ave.)

TAMMY UPDATE – 12/2/23

Tammy’s recovery continues to move in the right direction! We are hopeful that she’ll be ready to return home in four or five weeks. She has been cleared from COVID, and is doing a great job with her physical therapy.

Feel free to pay her a visit, give her a call on her cell phone (afternoons are usually the best time to reach her), or send her a get well card!

Time to CELEBRATE!

The Sanctuary Working Group, which is a program of Wellington UCC, has recently been awarded a $22,000 Community Impact Grant from the Community Renewal Society

These funds will be used to pay the rent for 6 months on apartments for 3 recently arrived asylum seeking families. We are grateful to the Community Renewal Society for this generous partnership.

“Harlem Shuffle is a wildly entertaining romp. But as you might expect with this two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and MacArthur genius, Whitehead also delivers a devastating, historically grounded indictment of the separate and unequal lives of Blacks and whites in mid-20th century New York.”
