ATTENTION! If you are attending service next Sunday, June 1st, please allow extra time as the Garfield Park neighborhood will have road closures for the Bank of America Half-Marathon from 6am to 11am.  For a full detail of roads closed during that time,
please click here.

This month’s Helping Hands collection is going to support NJN,
a senior at Sullivan High School who will attend UIC in the fall.

Our connection with N and his family began in 2019 through the Sanctuary Working Group. While overcoming many obstacles during his teenage years, he fell in love with basketball, excelled academically, and became known for his leadership and peacekeeping. N’s journey has been a challenging one, but his resilience and focus on a positive future inspire all who support him. We’ve asked him to share a copy of his words from church last Sunday, and will include them here when we receive them.

Please consider making a donation to assist N with college and
travel expenses for his new journey!

Checks can be mailed to:

The people of Gaza are being systematically starved,
and denied access to humanitarian aid.

To draw attention to this atrocity, and stand in solidarity with our siblings in Gaza, Veterans for Peace has called for a 40-day fast for Gaza to run May 22-June 30.

Thanks to Chris Inserra for bringing this event to our attention!
We are now organizing a Wellington group to participate in this interfaith campaign. Will you join us?

Click HERE to read the invitation letter from Mennonite Action, which includes several fasting options, like fasting for just one day, joining a chain fast, or skipping one meal a day for the duration of the fast.

You can also click HERE to support the fast at the national level.

You can also send an email to Pastor Ann-Louise and let her know you’d like to be part of the Wellington group.

Do you love to have the last word? Then you won’t want to miss the special session of Coffee Talk on June 4th where we will write and share our own obituaries! Get your creative juices flowing and find inspiration for your first draft HERE.

On Saturday, May 31st, the Last Supper Club* will be hosted by Brenda Friedman, newly returned from France!

RSVP to the Church Office by phone call, text, or email to save yourself a seat at the table! There’s only one spot left!

Our Wellington Choir has been invited to join the English speaking service in the main sanctuary.  This ALL MUSIC service will also be livestreamed on Facebook!

STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS

If you live in zip codes 60640 or 60660, be sure to read this announcement from our partners at ONE Northside!

Big changes may be coming to the Broadway corridor from Montrose to Devon – cutting through the heart of Uptown and Edgewater. These changes will have an impact on affordable housing.

  • The city is proposing ‘upzoning’ this Broadway corridor, which could lead to new housing developments being built.
  • As the CTA construction concludes this summer, there are opportunities to fight for affordable housing on the land they used for their construction sites.

Join us for a teach-in and discussion via zoom on Wednesday, May 21 at 6pm-7:30pm to answer:

  • What does it mean to Upzone Broadway? What are the implications for affordable housing if it passes?
  • What other opportunities are there to fight for affordable housing along the Broadway corridor?

This teach-in and discussion is an opportunity to learn more and hear from ONE Northside members and volunteers who live along the corridor about what they think is most in our self-interest as ONE Northside to organize around in order to achieve our vision of a diverse and united north side where everyone can thrive.

Sign-up for the Teach-in (click here)!

Then, on Monday, June 2 at 6pm, we’ll convene in person for a decision-making meeting where dues-paying members (individuals and institutions) and our active volunteers along the corridor (people who live in 60660 or 60640 who have attended at least one event or donated since 11/1/24) will be invited to vote on two propositions:

  • should ONE Northside endorse the proposed Upzone?
  • should ONE Northside launch an exploratory campaign committee to organize around the future of the CTA-owned lots?

We ask that people who attend the meeting on June 2, attend or watch a recording of the teach-in on May 21.

The meeting on June 2 will be from 6-7:30pm at our office, 4750 N. Sheridan, Suite 200.

Sign-up for the Decision Making Meeting!

These meetings are not open to the public. If you’re receiving this email, it means you’re a member or active volunteer along the corridor. We look forward to working with you, our members and active volunteers, to decide the best course forward and identifying how we can best organize to win more affordable housing in Uptown and Edgewater. Questions?
