Our May Helping Hands offering supports Treatment Not Trauma,a campaign organized by a coalition of community members, alderpeople, social workers, and youth, who all want to see a city with a funded, robust public care system and a city wide crisis response program that dispatches properly trained mental health professionals and EMT, not armed police officers. Treatment Not Trauma’s goal is to demand that the leaders of our city understand the importance of investing in the infrastructure of a public care system for the safety of the people of Chicago.

Music 4 the Soul

Nick Guetterman, our gifted pianist, completed his Masters in Performance Studies at De Paul University on Saturday, May 27 with an outstanding piano recital. The first piece he played was a sonata by Joseph Haydn. Here is a video clip of Nick playing this gorgeous, uplifting, and soothing piece of music.
Congratulations, Nick! And bravo!

Joseph Haydn (1732 – 1809)
Divertimento in A-flat Major, Hob XVI:46 (1767-70)
I. Allegro moderato
II. Adagio
III. Finale. Presto

Nick wrote some notes on Haydn in the program, in part:
“A Divertimento (Italian for amusement) is a genre of lighthearted music from the 18th century….The overall movement gives a sense of brilliance and virtuosity. The second movement….is extremely delicate and intimate, requiring subtle expression from the performer. In typical Haydn fashion, the finale is the most energetic of the movements, which grasps the attention of the listener up until the piece comes to its resolution.”
