At our meeting last Sunday, the vote was clear ~ we will be landing at First Church of the Brethren as our home for now. Click here to read the (unapproved) minutes of the meeting, which includes the final vote results.

Under the leadership of Hans Lagoni, movers will be bringing our items out of storage on Saturday, June 28th. Stay tuned for next steps – including work days to help unpack and settle in!

The Negro Spiritual Royalties

Since 2022, Wellington UCC has been paying “royalties” each time we sing a Negro Spiritual in a service, honoring the musical legacy of enslaved African Americans.

Each of our offerings supports the development of young Black & Brown Chicago-area musicians through The People’s Music School Greater South Side program (GSS).

Our June Helping Hands offering goes to support this endeavor – and you can still contribute! In these days of growing cruelty, it feels especially important to make a difference, so please give generously.

🌈 Sunday, June 29th is PRIDE
Wellington will be marching in the parade as part of the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches.

Most folks will join Sunday’s service via Zoom, but our marchers will gather alongside the parade route for a hybrid gathering.

FAQs for our marchers can be found HERE

Joining the in-person cohort for worship?
You’ll find us in the greenspace just beyond
where Byron dead-ends at Seminary (same spot as last year).

Need directions?  This should help!

We had so much fun writing and sharing our obituaries last month – and realized that we have song requests, too, for our final farewell!

What do YOU want played at your funeral (or celebratory repast)?
It can be a favorite hymn or a Motown classic – or anything in between! Email it to Pastor Ann-Louise and she’ll add it to
our community playlist!

Bonus question:
Which Wellingtonian
wants this played
at their funeral?

Books for Africa

We’re so excited to share that the five-container shipment to Sierra Leone that we helped sponsor has arrived in Freetown!

This shipment received support from the U.S. Department of Defense Humanitarian Assistance Program, BetterWorld Trust, The Stillman Family Foundation, Dan & Linda Melin, Dick Simpson, Wellington U.C.C. and MSD, along with many other donors.

This group effort brought a tremendous 157,000 books to Sierra Leone, which will be distributed to a range of schools in the weeks ahead. All told, this endeavor has brought 970,000 books to Sierra Leone over the last fifteen years. Thank you, Dick Simpson, for your dedication to this project and for bringing Wellington into this work!

Clinton and Karen Stockwell were featured in the Galena Gazette!

Music 4 the Soul

This final installment until September,

will boost your soul via two artists,

both of whom have virtually joined our Wellington services.

You can join the collective choir, led by Arnae Batson.

We lean on each other in these challenging days;

we lean on the everlasting arms of God.
