This is a critical moment for the 2023 Farm Bill campaign –
a chance to build healthier, more equitable,
and sustainable food systems

The Outreach Committee asks everyone to
send an email or call your congresspeople regarding the Farm Bill (which includes food stamps) and urge passage with the highest SNAP benefits possible!  Most recipients lost $300 a month beginning last March.

Congress is currently on recess and will vote on the bill soon after the return in August. Call 1-800-826-3688 if you don’t know how to reach your representative.

JOIN THE WELLINGTON UCC JAIL SUPPORT TEAM!

The Outreach Committee invites you to be part of the Wellington UCC team volunteering at Chicago Community Jail Support from 5:00PM to 8:15PM on the first Friday of the month – starting August 4!

Most people are released from Cook County Jail with nothing but the clothes they were arrested in – without a phone, money, or any belongings. This can be more than inconvenient and demeaning, it can be dangerous. That’s where Chicago Community Jail Support comes in.

Chicago Community Jail Support is a 7-days-a-week grassroots mutual aid project run completely by volunteers. Their mission is to assist anyone being released from Cook County Jail, their loved ones, and the surrounding community. They focus on providing direct aid that meets the immediate needs of those being released with phone calls, warm clothing and shelter, snacks, drinks, PPE, safe transportation home, and emergency housing. They have been present outside the jail at the corner of 27th Street and California Blvd every day from 5 PM to 10 PM (11 PM on weekends) for the last three years.

We will be volunteering on the first shift.
Training will be provided!

Please call Meg Evans (at 217-553-2995) or Debbie Southorn (at 971-227-3829) for more info or to join this Wellington community effort to keep this vital project going! Or send a friend our way!

Upcoming Special Events!

Join the Book Club on July 15th as we launch our new

All members are encouraged to join the conversation – even if you haven’t read the book.
