Thanks for taking a moment to check out these events in our shared life & the wider world.

If you’d like something included in an upcoming newsletter, please let the office know! Reach out to office@waucc.org or 773-935-0642 (text or call).

If you’d rather join by phone, just dial 312-626-6799 and enter the Meeting ID: 917 3218 6458.

It’ll be a quasi-hyrbrid service, since a bunch of us will be Zooming in from the Church Retreat in Tower Hill!

This weekend at the retreat, various groups will be doing “waggle dances” in support of different locations for a long-term physical home for Wellington!

Wondering what all this bee-talk is about? Get yourself up to (bee) speed by clicking here to review the presentation from Wellington Way 2022. If you need some guidance on criteria to think about regarding your scout locations click here.

If you/your team are planning to do a waggle dance or two, please let Ann-Louise know so we hold enough time for it during the retreat!

Upcoming Events

Outreach invites everyone to attend the
Annual Every Child Matters Powwow on September 30th,
organized by the American Indian Health Service of Chicago.

The event honors victims of residential schools and celebrates native culture through drumming, dancing, crafts, and food. Entry is free.

This year, the location is Bunker Hill Forest Preserve, West Harts Road, Niles, IL. The event opens at 11 am, with a presentation on the boarding schools at 11:45 am, Grand Entry at 12:30 pm, and dance sessions until 5 pm. To learn more, go to American Indian Health Service of Chicago, Inc.

Here’s how it works: Pastor Ann-Louise cooks, you show up to eat!

In addition to a great meal, you get to enjoy good conversation &
a connection that goes a little deeper than Fellowship Hour.

This month, we’ll have a special conversation focus on Ethical Wills, with Margaret England helping to facilitate the discussion. If you’re interested in learning more about them, please join us!

Come celebrate Dick Simpson as he is honored for his lifelong commitment to fighting against corruption and
for good government in Chicago!

Please let Pastor Ann-Louise know if you would like to join Wellington’s table at this event.

Over the past three years, the Sanctuary Working Group, now a program of Wellington, has offered accompaniment support to over 260 asylum seekers – both families & individuals – from mainly Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Utilizing their cooperative, grassroots network of representatives from over 41 organizations, they work to meet emergency needs – such as food, clothing, housing – and also provide referrals to case management, medical and dental care, and legal support.

A grant is currently being submitted to the MacArthur Foundation to help grow their work – but they still need individual donors to help meet the many needs that are presented to them every week!

Please give generously to support their work. 100% of all gifts go directly to recently arrived asylum seekers.

You can give online here – just be sure to click on the “TO” drop-down menu and choose “Sanctuary Working Group Emergency Fund.”

If you are able to cover the bank processing fees, please click the box in the bottom left-hand corner that says “Cover fees.”

You can also mail a check to:

Wellington UCC, P.O. Box 804687, Chicago, IL 60680-4108

Please note: SWG – EF on the memo line.

Feel free to share this request with anyone you know who expresses concern for the arriving asylum seekers in Chicago!
