Memorial Service for Tammy Snider
Sunday, March 15 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon

It is still difficult to believe that Wellington’s own angel has flown off to heaven! All are invited to join us for a hybrid service, streamed live from the sanctuary at First Church of the Brethren,
to celebrate her life.

As you reflect on Tammy’s life, please enjoy this obituary, crafted by Jeni Fabian & Kathleen Lojas, longtime devoted friends of Tammy’s.

Last weekend, Israel and the United States launched a war on Iran. At least one strike killed over 100 children at an elementary school in Iran. Iran retaliated with strikes towards US bases and military assets throughout the region. Everyone is living in fear as deaths and injuries are rising.

God of Justice, we continue to pray for an end to the violence, destruction, and fear we are facing. We feel during these times the cry of the Psalmist: “O Lord, how long shall the wicked,  how long shall the wicked exult?” (Psalm 94: 3) Hear the cries of the most vulnerable as they suffer and deliver us from modern day pharaohs and evildoers. In the face of overwhelming injustice, we pray for your justice and righteousness to reign.God in your mercy…hear our prayer.

As the days grow longer and we are tempted by the return of spring, Lent is also a great time to reflect on what we wish to outgrow.

If a daily devotional reading will enrich your Lenten journey, click on the image to the left to download a copy of the UCC “Still Speaking” devotional, courtesy of the church.

William Asfour is the Chicago Chapter Coordinator for American Muslims for Palestine. He is originally from Gaza and still has family there, an experience that continues to shape his commitment to justice, dignity, and principled solidarity. He shared the following reflection about the upcoming Purge Palantir vigil.

Join us on Thursday, March 19 at 12:00pm CDT / 7:00pm Palestine for a Zoom conversation between sister organizations Anar and Healing to Hope as we explore the meaning of solidarity in the struggle against injustice, occupation, and violence in Palestine and the U.S.

From Bethlehem, Minneapolis, and Chicago, we will discuss community accompaniment, global and local solidarity, and centering the experiences of children and caregivers. As we learn from each other, we will look to Anar’s model for addressing long-term trauma and sustaining well-being in the face of injustice.

In conversation:
Rami Khader, Anar Executive Director (Bethlehem, Palestine)
Sarah Myers, Healing to Hope Executive Director (Minneapolis)
Monica Asfour Hanson, Healing to Hope Board (Greater Minneapolis)

“Mother Mary Comes To Me, Arundhati Roy’s first work of memoir, is a soaring account, both intimate and inspirational, of how the author became the person and the writer she is, shaped by circumstance, but above all by her complex relationship to the extraordinary, singular mother she describes as “my shelter and my storm.” (Goodreads)

Invite a friend to join us!

Since the last day of March falls during Holy Week, there is no Last Supper this month.

Instead, we will be joining our friends from First Church for their Love Feast and Footwashing Service on Thursday, April 2nd.

You can participate even if you want to keep your socks and shoes on!
Hope to see you there.

This powerful music video with Civil Rights’ Era photos, reminds us that TODAY and together, we join our voices to say We are not afraid.
